A/N: This is sort of A/U to my story Suertalo. It’s not directly a sequel but it has some references to it so if you want you can go read that one first. This takes place in the middle of the third season only here Lexa has died. That will be explained later on. Adam is still missing, Emma is well you have to read.

Prolog

“Jess, I can’t… do this… anymore.”

The young woman said almost out of breath. The dark hood of her sweater covered her pale face well from the bright sun, making the loose curls of brown seem almost gold. The blond man next to her was the only thing keeping her from falling down to the pavement. He had a strong arm around her thin waist holding her up.

“Come on baby, just a little bit longer, we’re almost there.” He said as he gingerly moved her forward into the line that had been held up thanks to some poor sap that had forgotten his sector pass. The street that had up until an hour ago been quiet and not so crowded had begun to fill up with people. They weren’t the only ones who were trying to get into the city.

“Jesse it hurts.” She breathed as he tried to steady her on her feet, most of her weight pressed onto his thick body.

“Cory, we’re almost there. You gotta hold on a little longer.” He pressed a soft kiss to her pale cheeks. She was already beginning to burn up and that wasn’t a good thing around here. In truth he was scared to death they were cutting it pretty close. Glancing at the battered but accurate clock that hung above the gate he shook his head sadly. If they missed there meeting with their contact she could very well die right here on the spot. And he’d be damned if he was going to loose another piece of his family. No that wasn’t going to happen again, he had promised himself a long time ago that he would do everything in his power to keep his family together. Jesse was surprised that they had made it this far without being stopped by some uniform harassing them.

Things here in Seattle had been getting worse and not just for the transgenic mutants who were roaming around the streets. The children of Genome X had been in hiding for as long as he could remember. Once upon a time Jesse had been apart of a team that helped new mutants get away from an evil scientist known to all as Mason Eckhart. Eckhart had been capturing these new mutants and placing them in pod chambers to further his experiments. That is until a group known as the strand came along, their leader a psychopath named Gabriel Ashlock came and got rid of him. Ashlock had been responsible for the death of the only brother Jesse had ever known.

The blond closed his eyes remembering the day Brennan Mulwray had been shot. Jesse and Shalimar Fox had been sitting at the Coral dinner waiting for the other members of their team Emma De lauro and Adam Kane to join them. It was Brennan’s birthday; he and Cory had been sent to pick up an old friend of Brennan’s to set her into the underground. It was suppose to have been simple enough, only it had turned into a blood bath… it was all a set up by a raving lunatic. Gabriel Ashlock. They had received a scrambled SOS from Cory. By the time they got there they had almost lost both of them. Gabriel had one of his men take out the elemental. Only the bullet had went through Brennan and hit Charlie… Ashlock had later met with his death. Death had been in the form an enraged feral, a blonde woman who had lost it all when a member of her pack had been ripped away from her. And the other left for dead.

Movement in the line broke Jesse from his thoughts and he had to pull her forward. Her grip on his shoulder tightened up as she stifled a groan into his chest. “We’re almost there, just hold on baby.”

“Jesse… they got… thermal scanners.” She whispered holding onto him tightly; he wrapped his arms protectively around her frail body. He could feel her beginning to shake. “We… can’t go this way.”

Jesse looked around for away around the perimeter fence but found no way. There were too many people around, and he didn’t need to cause them any more exposure than they already had. Thermal scanners were used to hunt the transgenic mutant’s, there body temperature were 101.8 degrees as appose to the 98.6 degrees on the average human. This was all fine and well seeing as the genome X mutants could be directly under the radar and no one would notice a thing. But Cory wasn’t a normal genome X mutant; her thermal abilities left her with a body temperature of 102.1 degrees. Which if the transgenic mutants were white flashes in the radar she was a super nova. “Cory, you need to shut the perimeter fence down.”

The dark haired girl in his arms shook her head. “I can’t.”

Jesse turned her so that she was facing the security booths direct line of sight. Still holding her up with one by her waist he used the other to place her right arm around his shoulder. Effectively anchoring the woman to him. “You can and you will.” He said firmly leading her out of the line and towards the less crowded area. Jesse stopped when they were hidden behind the stairway to an old warehouse.

The perimeter fence was just a few feet away from them; all they needed was a telekinetic blast from the dark haired girl to the security booths main line. Jesse frowned as he felt her push all her weight onto side. “Cory…” She was now limp in his arms. “Cory! No, no, no come on wake up.” He lightly slapped her face. “Cory! Come on baby don’t do this now. Cory.”

Unknown to the molecular there were two figures watching from the rooftops, both crouched down on the heels of their feet.
